UpLift stands for Upgraded Primary Learning is Fun Together. Upgraded
simply means that children are not assigned to a grade level but to a classroom.
They usually remain in that same classroom for three years. Each of the three classrooms
have children from the ages of 6 to 10 (first through third grade).
Benefits of this structure:
- uninterrupted progress from year to year with a built-in ability to work ahead
in subjects that are areas of strength
- sense of comfort and confidence gained each succeeding year in the "family" group as
teachers, parents and students get to know each other
- consideration of the "complete child" that is developed over 3 years time in one
classroom, which allows for continuous construction of knowledge, concepts and critical skills
- an essential "home-school connection" with daily folders, weekly newsletters and weekly
Freedom Level reports
Additional important elements
- literature based reading (Children's reading instruction is done through literature books)
- integrated thematic instruction: Instruction is connected to a theme so that the children can see
logical connections
- beginning students are matched with experienced students so that there is a smooth transition to school
- a variety of assessment tools are used to measure and report children's growth and development
